Before she became a Playboy model and reality star, Kendra Wilkinson struggled with depression and self-mutilation, even spending time in a psychiatric facility. Read more and see video of Kendra talk about her dark days below.
Kendra Wilkinson, newlywed and new mom, opens up about her troubling teen years when she cut herself and was suicidal.
“I had so much pain that I just wanted to die,” Wilkinson, 24, said. “It wasn’t that I was trying to die [from cutting myself], it was that the pain took away from my pain inside.”
Kendra opens up about her struggles in her E! True Hollywood Story episode, which shows video footage of Kendra’s mother and grandmother.
“I did get a call from school one day that Kendra had admitted to taking a half-dozen or so medications, and they said, ‘You need to get her to a hospital immediately,’” her mother Patti says. “I was scared to death.”
Wilkinson knew she was causing pain to her family during what she calls her “devil years”, when she abused drugs and says she was “very selfish.” “I was doing it for attention, I needed that attention,” she says.
Kendra said her “drug days” began at 13 when a friend offered her cocaine. By the time she was a sophomore in high school she was using drugs “every day, every minute” and would also cut herself.
At the age of 15, Kendra swallowed “a half dozen or so” pills at school and her mother checked her in a psychiatric facility.
“It was crazy in that place,” Wilkinson says in her interview. “We didn’t see daylight. We weren’t allowed outside. It was basically a jail, but it was a hospital.”
Wilkinson says after leaving the psych hospital, she ran away from home with her deadbeat boyfriend.
